Exhale & Reflect

I love this time of year. Besides July - being my birthday month, and December - with all the Christmas festivities, September and October feel like a breath of fresh air for me. It feels like a reset and an exhale. The weather is warming up, the days are a little longer and the holiday season is not too far away.

There’s almost like this whisper telling me to check my progress and review my goals. It’s a little bit weird because we’re sort of in this strange in-between and the year isn’t over yet, but it’s always a good time to reflect, so let’s go.

When I look back over the last ten months, I realise something: I’ve actually had a really good year. I wasn’t in a frantic state or in that mindset of thinking I’m running out of time; I was actually living my life. I packed my bags and went to Europe for the very first time - something I’d dream about for years. I celebrated my 28th birthday entirely by myself, learning the comfort of my own company and realising I’m so much fun (humbly speaking!). I attended two beautiful weddings, celebrating love, and most importantly, I found a much lighter headspace, one that I haven’t had in years.

For once, the inner critic in my head was quiet.

I am trying to be more kind to myself. If one of my friend’s came to me and was sharing about about the stress and pressure they feel in life, I’d be like, “Girl, it’s okay”. I’d do everything I can to reassure and make them feel better. And also let them know that they’re not alone. Treat yourself like your own best friend is how that saying goes, and boy have I been. This is my life and I’ve got so much time.

There’s no rush, there’s just right now.

I truly feel that everything I’ve done this year has helped me come into my own, and I’ve earned it. Finding peace in my work and routine hasn’t only been necessary, but it’s been rewarding, and I’m so proud of myself.

I’m living my life for me, and I’m doing what I want to do.

What a powerful and liberating last line. I’ll end it there.
